Meet Champ Imi, a 24 year old Pakistani national and model based in London, UK. He is 6’2″ tall and has been a model since 2008.
Champ has worked as a model for several brands and the most recent ones are; Loreal, Coca Cola, Rimmel, Balmain Paris Hair, Vogue, GQ, Hunger, ID, Toni and Guy. The list is endless.
Champ Imi shares with us his journey as a professional model, what inspires him and explains what makes him who he is. He is the second person to be featured in our programme – I’m A Model.
I had to sacrifice my future as an international cricketer to become a model.Then I put all my effort and hard work to break through as a model which took a long while, loads of patience and courage to make it big. He says.
Q. When and how did you start out as a model?
Before 2008, I was a cricketer and I had never thought of being a model not until when I got scouted at the age of 16. This basically came to me as a gift because I had never thought of taking up modeling as a profession. What pushed me even more into modeling was those close to me pointing out how good I was, a perfect fit of a model, they said.

….. a way to connect with the world, travel and make a name for myself.
Q. What did you have to sacrifice to get to this point as a model?
I had to sacrifice my future as an international cricketer to become a model.Then I put all my effort and hard work to break through as one which took a long while, loads of patience and courage to make it big.
Q. What’s the first thing you do when you wake up?
I always do some home workout exercises mainly core and abs.
Q. How do you market yourself as a model?
I market my self through social media and other fan pages. Also my agency in London, (Named Models) does a great job in marketing me as a model.
Q. What is your idea of beauty? What would you change about yourself if you could?
Beauty lies in the eyes of beholder. A true beauty is inner beauty. I would like to be more organised.
Q. What do you consider as good pay for a model?
It really depends on what u do but I would say 1,000 to 10,000 (British Pounds) is a good pay.
Q. Is there anyone who manages you or handles your finances?
I am managed by Named Models and i handle my own finances as i am an accountant as well.
Q. How are you like when there are no cameras or many people watching you?
I am a very humble man who likes to watch movies and play sports.
Q. What’s your vision as a model? Where do you see yourself in the next 4 years?
I just want to be successful and help many people as I can by assisting them achieve their goals. I see myself very settled and hopefully in movies in the next 4 years.
Q. Who/what inspires you? (Why)
My mum inspires me everyday because she is the best example of a perfect human being.
Q. What are some of the challenges you have faced as a model?
Racism, criticism, equal changes and discrimination.
Q. How do you handle hard times?
I just smile and pray to God. He always makes everything better for me.
Q. What’s your best moment as a model?
The time I became the first ever Asian model to be part of Burberry.
Q. Other than modeling, is there any other profession you are pursuing?
Yes, I am a fashion editor of Kouture magazine.
Q. What would you like changed in your country’s modeling industry?
I would like favouritism found in my country’s modeling industry stopped and I would like key drivers of this industry to be professional and provide fair opportunities for new talent. And not about who you know but what you know basis.
Q. What are some of the things you do to be happy?
I visit my family back home. I also spend time with my lovely girlfriend, Julia.
